Legionnaires,
The 91st American Legion Department of New Mexico Convention came to an end along with the Month of June. The convention was hosted by Post 69, which was a first in the 65 years the Post has been chartered.. The first day started out with a golf tournament held at the Arroyo Del Oso golf course. The rest of the day was mostly committee meetings being convened. The evening topped off with pool and horseshoe tournaments as well as grilled hamburger plates available for purchase.
The second day the convention was convened, there were welcoming speeches by special guests, a terrific lunch was provided by the food service crew of Post 69. Reports from various committees and representatives from the State Department of Labor as well as various veterans service organizations. The day ended with a barbeque dinner prepared by members of Post 95. It was delicious and there was plenty to eat.
On day 3 the convention reconvened following the Past Commanders Club breakfast Prepared, again, by Post 69.
There were more reports and much information veterans and the services available. Some of the speakers were the Director of the VA Medical Center, Department Service Officer, VA Regional Director, NM State Veterans Home Administrator, and many others. It was a very informative day. Following a Membership Luncheon, the afternoon was filled for periods of caucus in which candidate hopefuls campaigned to Post Delegations for their vote.
The last day was observed with a joint memorial service honoring the deceased Legion and Auxiliary members. The business meeting was reconvened and election of officers was held. The highlight was when your Post commander was elected to the position of Department Vice Commander. It was a great convention and many thanks to all those who made it happen.
